"PMS, Depression, and
Waveforms"
by Melanie
Anne Phillips
We may turn the topic on suicide. The concept is
that a lot of people commit suicide - especially a lot of women commit suicide - because
they have a tendency to look at the waves of emotion that dictate the baseline of how we
see our lives as being states. They look at them that way because of the male structured
society that we have.
So women are especially vulnerable because they are
going to be seeing themselves (if they are depressed or sad) as always being depressed or
sad. Or if their life is terrible, it's always going to be terrible. This is the nature of
PMS. This why women get into classic depression so often. They see themselves in a state,
and once they see themselves in a binary state, they assume that it will last linearly.
And as result, to dig themselves out of it, would require so much energy that there is no
hope, because the suffering that they would have to endure to apply the energy they would
need to get out of the pit is greater than the reserves they have, and they give up all
hope.
In fact, you don't have to supply any energy to get
out of these things at all. All you have to do is wait it out, because no matter how
depressed you feel, ultimately things will change in yourself. Even if they don't change
in your environment -- that will alter they way in which you measure your environment and
make you happier about it.
Now, certainly environment does have its impact by
setting a level if you want to look at state. You can say the environment will set a state
as to how conducive it is to your happiness. But, within that your own feelings about it
are actually waves. Some of those waves are long waves and take a long time to change, but
they do change. And some of them are short waves, and change frequently. And PMS changes
once a month. During that time, women will move in and out of moods -- going into more
depression or into elation at different points of the cycle. What is happening is a simple
wave form, and if women were allowed to embrace that wave form, they would not have a
recursive pattern of thought created in their own minds-- feeling like they are going to
be there forever, and have to dig their way out, and they don't have the strength. As a
result of it, that's going to create in them a depression that everything has turned sour.
I know from my own experiences, that in moving
through that cycle, that's exactly what happens. It's not so much a question of are things
really bad? It's more a question of how much effort would I have to put in to make it get
better, then it leads to an appraisal. If the wave is near it's bottom portion at that
time, it leads to an appraisal that the energy required to pull out of the pit and even
get back to neutral is more than the energy you have when you look at your reserves. And
then you give up hope because you think you can't pull yourself out. And when you give up
hope, then at that point, you no longer apply energy to get yourself out, and in fact
create a pattern within your own mind that substantiates your view that you'll never get
out. Because once you've given up hope, you've become steadfast in the view that life is
worthless. And even when forces are acting to bring you out of that pit without any effort
on your part, you can't see it.
Speaking of pits, it's much like being down in the
bottom of pit in assuming that that's where you are going to stay forever. Water starts
pouring in the pit and you believe that you are going to drown. If all you would do is
tread water during the time that the water is coming in, it would rise to a level that
would buoy you up to the top of the pit, where you could climb out and all you'd have to
supply is the minimum energy to tread water -- not to climb out. That's the real key. If
you can hold yourself neutral; if you can just keep yourself from sinking, then the
climbing up part will take care of itself.
And so, in Problem solving software, that is one of
the areas that we need to address. When you feel your worst, when you feel your most
depressed -- recognize that it's a wave form either caused by biochemical reaction like
PMS, or perhaps classic depression in the psychological sense. Even if it's caused by the
biochemistry, that doesn't mean it cannot be dealt with, even in a non-chemical way. If we
document that and describe how when depression comes on to hold yourself neutral by
treading water. Don't try to improve the situation, don't even look for improvement in the
situation. Just hold yourself steady and like the stockmarket, after a period of time it
will go from being a bear market into a bull market, and buoy you up over the top again.
